Shimla, June 6: The Shimla Police have arrested Yudhveer Singh Bains in connection with a case involving alleged social media content that authorities claim could affect communal harmony and public peace. The arrest was made on June 6, 2026, following an investigation into a complaint received by the police.
According to officials, a complaint was filed at Baluganj Police Station alleging that Yudhveer Singh Bains had shared a video on his Facebook account containing remarks and content that could allegedly create hostility between different religious communities. The complainant expressed concern that the widespread circulation of the video could disturb law and order and affect communal harmony.
Digital Investigation Led to Registration of FIR
Police stated that a preliminary investigation and digital analysis of the social media content were conducted after receiving the complaint. During the inquiry, officials examined the video and other digital evidence linked to the case.
According to the police, the available material indicated that the content had the potential to create tension and hostility between communities. Based on the findings, an FIR was registered at West Police Station, Shimla.
The case was registered as FIR No. 108/2026 under Sections 196, 299 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a detailed investigation was initiated.
Allegations of Non-Cooperation During Investigation
Police officials said that notices were issued to the accused, directing him to join the investigation. However, according to the authorities, he did not cooperate as required during the inquiry process.
The police further alleged that attempts were made to obstruct the investigation, following which Section 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was also added to the case.
Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, Yudhveer Singh Bains was arrested in accordance with legal procedures on June 6. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are continuing to examine all aspects of the case.
Officials also stated that the accused had previously faced criminal cases registered in different police stations, including cases in Una and Shimla districts.
Shimla Police reiterated that strict legal action would be taken against any activity that threatens public peace, communal harmony or law and order. The police also urged citizens to use social media responsibly and avoid sharing content that could create social unrest or disturb public harmony.
