Chandigarh/Ludhiana, June 4: Punjab Police is strengthening its citizen-centric policing model by focusing on community engagement, crime prevention and public safety across the state. Ludhiana, known as Punjab’s industrial hub, is emerging as a key example of this approach, with industrialists and residents appreciating the visible improvements in law enforcement and public outreach.
Under the leadership of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, Punjab Police has intensified efforts to create a safer environment through proactive policing, technology-driven initiatives and stronger community participation.
Industry Leaders Praise Improved Law and Order
Several industrialists from Ludhiana have acknowledged the positive impact of Punjab Police’s initiatives on business operations and public safety.
Industrialist Anmol Sood said that the business community has benefited from the enhanced sense of security provided by the police. Recalling an incident involving an alleged land-grabbing attempt, he said police officials responded within minutes and took prompt action.
His brother and business partner, Sanchit Sood, noted that criminal activities such as extortion-related incidents have significantly declined in recent years. He credited the local police and state leadership for focusing on community policing and quick response mechanisms.
The growing confidence among businesses comes at a time when Punjab is attracting substantial investments. According to official figures, the state has received investment proposals worth around ₹57,000 crore over the past year, supported by a stable law-and-order environment.
Technology and Public Participation Strengthening Policing
DGP Gaurav Yadav said Punjab Police remains committed to public welfare and is working round the clock to ensure safety and security. He highlighted the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), public outreach programmes and open-dialogue initiatives to improve communication between citizens and law enforcement agencies.
To further modernise policing, Punjab Police has operationalised an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Ludhiana. The facility combines traffic monitoring, surveillance systems and police control room operations under one platform, helping improve response times and investigative efficiency.
Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said the force is working towards the goal of a “Safe Punjab, Successful Punjab.” He emphasised that community participation plays a crucial role in modern policing and encouraged citizens to share information that could help prevent crime.
Campaign Against Organised Crime Continues
Punjab Police has also intensified its campaign against organised crime through “Operation Gangstran Te Vaar.” The initiative focuses on dismantling criminal networks, strengthening intelligence gathering and preventing gang-related activities.
Commissioner Swapan Sharma said many criminal groups attempt to influence young people for illegal activities while operating from outside the state or country. He urged youth to focus on education, personal growth and contributing positively to society.
He added that Punjab Police regularly conducts meetings with business associations, schools, doctors, NGOs and community groups to address public concerns and improve coordination. Feedback from citizens, he said, plays an important role in making policing more effective.
Officials believe that continued public engagement, technological advancements and targeted action against crime will further strengthen trust between citizens and Punjab Police while contributing to a safer environment across the state.
