New Delhi: In one of the largest proposed investments in India’s digital infrastructure sector, hyperscale data centre specialist AirTrunk has announced plans to invest more than ₹3 lakh crore (USD 30 billion) in the country by 2030 and develop 5 gigawatts (GW) of data centre capacity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the investment plans after meeting AirTrunk founder and Chief Executive Officer Robin Khuda on Friday. The investment is expected to significantly strengthen India’s position as a global hub for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital services.
Sharing the development, Prime Minister Modi said India’s digital infrastructure journey is gaining unprecedented momentum and that AirTrunk’s commitment ranks among the largest investments ever proposed in the country’s digital ecosystem.
He noted that the project would not only boost cloud and AI capabilities but also generate large-scale employment, strengthen local supply chains and drive innovation-led economic growth.
AirTrunk, a leading hyperscale data centre operator across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region, described India as a key pillar of its long-term global growth strategy.
CEO Robin Khuda said Prime Minister Modi’s vision for the digital economy has transformed India into one of the world’s most attractive destinations for technology investment.
“India has the scale, talent and ambition to become a global AI powerhouse, and AirTrunk is excited to contribute to that vision,” Khuda said.
The company, backed by global investment giant Blackstone and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), stated that the proposed investment programme would support India’s ambitions to become a major destination for artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure and next-generation digital services.
AirTrunk’s development plans are expected to span multiple states and Union Territories and could become one of the country’s most significant digital infrastructure initiatives.
The announcement comes shortly after AirTrunk entered the Indian market through the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra in April 2026. Following the acquisition, the company already has a development pipeline of approximately 600 megawatts across Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad.
Founded in 2015, AirTrunk established Australia’s first hyperscale data centres and has since expanded rapidly across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region. The company specialises in building and operating large-scale data centre campuses designed for cloud providers, content platforms and enterprise customers, with a focus on reliability, innovation and energy efficiency.
Industry observers believe the proposed ₹3 lakh crore investment could play a crucial role in supporting India’s growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure, cloud services and data storage capabilities in the coming years.
