Amritsar: Security forces in Amritsar have been placed on high alert following a bomb threat directed at the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of Sikhism, just days before the anniversary of Operation Blue Star. Prompted by the threat, Punjab Police, alongside Central Armed Police Forces, have intensified surveillance and launched comprehensive search operations in and around the historic complex to ensure the safety of the thousands of pilgrims who visit daily.

The threat, which was received via email, warned of potential explosions within the sacred precinct, causing immediate concern among administrators and security agencies. In response, bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog units were deployed to conduct thorough sweeps of the outer areas, known as the galiara, as well as the main access points leading to the temple. Plainclothes police personnel have also been stationed across sensitive locations in the old city to monitor suspicious activity and maintain public order during this high-stakes period.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has strongly condemned the threat, describing it as a malicious attempt to create panic and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the shrine. Officials from the committee reassured the public that internal security task forces are working in close coordination with state police to maintain full operational vigilance. They emphasized that despite the threat, the flow of devotees remains steady, and religious services are continuing without interruption.

Law enforcement authorities have registered a formal case and the cybercrime cell is actively tracing the digital footprint and origin of the threatening communication. Senior police officials have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified rumours, reiterating that foolproof security arrangements are in place across Amritsar to counter any potential miscreant activity ahead of the upcoming anniversary.
