Chandigarh: The Punjab Cabinet on Saturday approved the reconstitution of a Cabinet Sub-Committee tasked with examining pending issues related to revised salaries, pensions, leave encashment and dearness allowance (DA) for government employees and pensioners.

The committee will review matters concerning the payment of arrears arising from revised pay scales and pension benefits for the period between January 1, 2016, and June 30, 2021.

In addition, it will examine pending Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) arrears for the period from July 1, 2021, to March 31, 2024.

Officials said the panel will also study issues related to DA and DR applicable to different categories of employees and pensioners before making its recommendations to the government.

The move is expected to address long-pending demands of government staff and retired employees regarding the release of outstanding financial benefits.

In another significant decision aimed at speeding up the disposal of cases, the Cabinet also approved the establishment of seven special courts across Punjab. The government said the new courts would help reduce pendency and ensure quicker resolution of designated cases.
