New Delhi: Thousands of users across India and several other countries experienced disruptions while using ChatGPT on Friday, triggering a wave of complaints on social media platforms and outage monitoring websites. Many users reported that the AI chatbot failed to answer prompts, loaded slowly, or displayed repeated error notifications during conversations.
The sudden technical issues affected students, office workers, developers, and content creators who depend on the platform for daily tasks ranging from writing assistance to coding support.
According to user reports shared online, the chatbot either stopped generating responses midway or displayed messages such as “Something went wrong” and “Network error.” Some users also claimed they were unable to access older conversations or continue ongoing chats.
Outage tracking platforms showed a sharp rise in complaints from major Indian cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune. Similar reports also surfaced from users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and parts of Europe.
Frustrated users quickly turned to social media platform X to check whether others were facing the same issue. One user wrote that the service had become “completely unusable” during work hours, while another said they were unable to submit college assignments because the chatbot kept crashing.
Several users on Reddit also mentioned interruptions in API services and delayed responses while using ChatGPT-integrated applications.
As of now, OpenAI has not issued a detailed statement explaining the cause of the disruption. However, users continued to report intermittent recovery in some regions, suggesting that services may be gradually stabilizing.
The outage once again highlighted how heavily people now rely on AI-powered tools for productivity, communication, and everyday problem-solving. With millions depending on these services globally, even a short disruption can impact workflows, education, and business operations.
Users are advised to check OpenAI’s official status page for real-time updates and wait for the services to fully recover before retrying failed tasks.
