SHIMLA: Governor Kavinder Gupta said that media is not just a platform for news and entertainment but a powerful force that can guide society, spread awareness and inspire positive change. Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest at the Big Impact Awards 2026 organized by BIG FM in Shimla, he highlighted the media’s role in nation-building and emphasized that industries, educational institutions, youth and social organizations all have an important role in achieving the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
The Governor praised BIG FM for recognizing individuals and institutions contributing towards social welfare, innovation and development. He also highlighted the influence of radio as a communication medium, citing programmes like ‘Mann Ki Baat’ for strengthening public participation. Appreciating BIG FM’s campaigns on women empowerment, health awareness, environmental protection and cyber security, he said media has the ability to turn social campaigns into mass movements.
Kavinder Gupta also raised concerns over global oil challenges and growing drug abuse among youth, urging media organizations to promote awareness about fuel conservation and healthy lifestyles. Stressing that youth are the nation’s greatest strength, he called for collective efforts to combat substance abuse through awareness campaigns, positive engagement and social responsibility, while encouraging young people to participate in sports, innovation, culture and social service activities.
