Noida: The investigation into the death of former model and actor Twisha Sharma has taken a dramatic turn after her mother-in-law publicly made a series of controversial allegations regarding the 33-year-old’s mental health, personal struggles and relationship with her parents.
Twisha was found hanging at her residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Her death is being investigated as a suspected dowry-related case after her father accused her husband Samarth and mother-in-law Giribala Singh of harassment and murder.
Addressing the media on Monday, Giribala Singh, a retired judge, claimed Twisha had been undergoing psychiatric treatment and alleged she had admitted to consuming marijuana during pregnancy.
She further stated that the family had supported her through what she described as a difficult mental health phase and claimed doctors had prescribed medication usually given to patients dealing with serious psychiatric conditions.
According to Singh, Twisha had also shown physical symptoms that she linked to withdrawal-related complications.
The mother-in-law also alleged that Twisha’s parents had distanced themselves from her over the last several months and accused them of benefiting from her modelling career during her younger years before eventually severing ties.
She claimed Twisha had entered the entertainment industry under pressure and later struggled emotionally.
Singh also spoke about an alleged medical termination of pregnancy, claiming Twisha had initially expressed regret after beginning the procedure but later completed the course of medication with family support.
Meanwhile, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma has strongly contested the family’s narrative and reiterated allegations of sustained pressure over financial expectations and emotional harassment after marriage.
He said while no direct dowry demand was ever made, indirect pressure was constantly created through expectations tied to lifestyle, spending and status.
According to him, tensions escalated after Twisha lost her job, with taunts over financial dependency becoming frequent.
He described his daughter’s husband as someone who appeared polite publicly but allegedly behaved differently behind closed doors.
He also pointed to what he claimed was a troubling history of disputes within the family, including alleged harassment involving a previous daughter-in-law.
Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, had built a successful profile as a model, actor and digital creator.
An MBA graduate, she entered modelling over a decade ago and later won the Miss Pune title, which helped launch her career in advertising and regional cinema.
She appeared in Telugu film projects and digital content ventures, earning recognition for her creative ambition and strong public presence.
Police continue to examine statements from both sides as investigators review evidence and circumstances surrounding her death.
The case remains under active investigation, with authorities yet to issue final conclusions.
