Deoria: A tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district claimed the life of a five-year-old boy and left his maternal aunt critically injured after their bicycle was struck by a tractor-trolley late Saturday night, police said.
The incident occurred near Sisai Dhala when the child and his aunt were returning home after visiting a nearby health centre.
According to police officials, the bicycle collided head-on with an approaching tractor-trolley on the road. The impact threw both riders off balance, causing the boy to come under the vehicle’s wheels.
The child, identified as Priyanshu, suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot, while his aunt, Nirasha Kumari, was flung to the roadside and sustained severe injuries.
Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help and immediately informed the police.
The injured woman was taken to a nearby medical facility, where doctors said her condition remains critical and she is undergoing treatment.
Police reached the accident site soon after receiving information and shifted the boy’s body for post-mortem examination.
Initial findings suggest the collision may have occurred due to poor visibility and lack of sufficient lighting on the stretch of road, though officials said all angles are being examined.
Authorities have begun efforts to trace the tractor-trolley driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
The incident has left the family devastated, with villagers expressing grief over the loss of the young child and demanding stricter monitoring of heavy vehicle movement on local roads, especially during late-night hours.
