Yograj Singh Moves Court for Pre-Arrest Relief in Chandigarh Case Over Web Series Dialogue

Chandigarh: Actor and former cricketer Yograj Singh, father of ex-India star Yuvraj Singh, has approached a Chandigarh court seeking anticipatory bail after an FIR was lodged against him over alleged objectionable remarks directed at women in a recently released web series.

The petition was heard by the district court, which has sought a response and relevant records from Chandigarh Police. The matter is now listed for further hearing on May 20.

The case was registered at Sector-36 police station after a complaint accused Yograj Singh of delivering offensive lines against women in a scene from the Hindi web series Lukkhe, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 8 this year.

The controversy erupted after a clip from the show circulated widely on social media, drawing criticism from several quarters. The disputed dialogue, delivered by Yograj Singh’s character during a scene, was alleged to contain derogatory remarks that hurt public sentiments and promoted disrespectful stereotypes against women.

Following the backlash, police initiated legal proceedings based on a formal complaint submitted by local advocates. Investigators have begun examining the context of the scene and the circumstances under which the dialogue was scripted and performed.

Seeking protection from arrest, Yograj Singh’s legal team argued before the court that the lines were part of a fictional script and should be viewed in the broader creative context of the series rather than as a personal statement.

The court has directed Chandigarh Police to place the case details on record before the next hearing, when Yograj’s plea for anticipatory bail will be considered in detail.

The matter has triggered debate online over the limits of creative expression and the accountability of actors for controversial dialogues delivered in fictional productions.
