Reasi, J&K: A devastating landslide struck Mahore’s Badder village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district early Saturday, leaving seven members of a single family dead, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred after relentless overnight rainfall loosened soil and rocks along the hillside, causing a massive slide that demolished the home of Nazir Ahmad. Authorities said Ahmad, his wife, and their five young children were inside when the mud and debris swept through the structure. None of them has been accounted for so far.

Rescue teams, supported by locals, are engaged in search operations despite treacherous conditions caused by continued rainfall and unstable terrain. “Efforts are on to locate the missing. The ground situation is difficult, but our teams are working around the clock,” an official said.

Reasi district has been among the worst-hit areas in recent days, with incessant monsoon showers triggering landslides and road blockages, cutting off several interior villages. The administration has urged residents in vulnerable slopes and hilly regions to shift to safer locations as a precautionary measure.

This tragedy underscores the recurring vulnerability of hilly districts in Jammu and Kashmir to extreme weather events, particularly during the monsoon season. Relief agencies are expected to continue their operations through the day, though officials caution that the chances of survival diminish with each passing hour.
