Sonbhadra: A festive marriage celebration in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district turned into a scene of mourning late Tuesday night when a pickup vehicle carrying wedding guests overturned, resulting in three fatalities and leaving nine others injured. According to the local police, the tragic incident occurred near Kathar village within the jurisdiction of the Rampur Barkonia police station. The vehicle was part of a wedding procession travelling from the Madihan neighbourhood of the neighbouring Mirzapur district toward Sonbhadra. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver lost control of the pickup, causing it to flip and trapping several passengers.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rishabh Runwal confirmed that emergency services rushed twelve individuals to the district hospital for urgent care. Despite medical intervention, three men—identified as twenty-year-old Rajan Gond, eighteen-year-old Ajay Gond, and thirty-five-year-old Vinod Gond—succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The victims were all residents of Madihan in Mirzapur. The loss of life has cast a heavy shadow over the wedding festivities, leaving the community in shock as they grapple with the sudden tragedy.
Of the nine survivors currently receiving treatment, two individuals have been referred to a specialized hospital in Varanasi due to their critical condition. The remaining seven patients are being monitored at the local district facility, where their conditions are reported to be stable. Police have initiated a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for a post-mortem examination as per standard legal procedure. The authorities are investigating whether mechanical failure or environmental factors contributed to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
