Chandigarh: A 31-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a forested patch of Sector 38, Chandigarh on Sunday, just hours before his family was scheduled to meet the woman he was expected to marry.
The deceased, identified as Manish Kashyap, worked as an electrician and had reportedly left home a day earlier after telling family members he was stepping out for a haircut before the important family meeting.
According to relatives, Manish had appeared cheerful before leaving and told his sister-in-law he wanted to groom himself properly ahead of meeting his prospective bride’s family. However, he failed to return home later that evening, triggering concern among family members.
Repeated calls to his phone reportedly went unanswered, prompting relatives to spend the entire night searching for him across nearby areas.
The body was discovered the following morning by children who had entered the forest area near the road connecting Panjab University to the local meteorological office. Startled by the sight and the foul smell coming from the spot, they immediately informed nearby residents, who then alerted police.
A police team soon reached the location and shifted the body to the mortuary at Government Multi Speciality Hospital Sector 16 for post-mortem examination.
Family members who arrived at the scene claimed there were visible injury marks on Manish’s head and alleged foul play. His father expressed suspicion that his son may have been murdered and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
Police officials have begun inquiries and are awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to provide clarity on the exact cause of death.
The tragic discovery has left the family in shock, as what was meant to be a hopeful day marking the next step toward Manish’s marriage turned into an unimaginable loss.
