Chandigarh, May 3, 2026: Punjab is witnessing a major transformation in policing as the state government intensifies its crackdown on drugs and organised crime through advanced technology. Sharing details of the initiative, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the campaigns ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ and ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ are being carried out with full commitment across the state.
He stated that Punjab Police has now become fully high-tech, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) being extensively used to tackle gangsters and criminal networks. As part of this initiative, a modern voice bank has been developed containing voice samples of more than 84,000 accused individuals and suspects.
Baltej Pannu highlighted that this technological advancement is significantly improving the efficiency of law enforcement agencies by enabling faster identification and tracking of criminals. He said that the use of AI has reduced the time required to trace suspects and has enhanced the accuracy of investigations.
AI Technology Strengthens Crackdown on Gangster Networks
Referring to a recent breakthrough, Baltej Pannu mentioned the Shambhu blast case, where the police successfully exposed the entire module and arrested all accused individuals. He said that the accused have also confessed to their involvement in previous incidents, and these arrests were made possible with the help of advanced AI-driven voice recognition technology.
He further revealed that Punjab Police now maintains a vast database of more than 3.9 lakh criminals operating across the world. With the integration of this database and voice recognition systems, law enforcement agencies can now identify criminals and trace their locations within minutes.
Issuing a strong warning to those attempting to disrupt peace in the state, Baltej Pannu said that criminals will no longer be able to escape the law. He asserted that with the help of modern technology, Punjab Police is capable of tracking offenders regardless of where they attempt to hide.
He added that this high-tech approach marks a significant shift in policing methods, making investigations more precise, efficient, and result-oriented.
‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ Campaign Intensifies Fight Against Drugs
Speaking about the anti-drug drive, Baltej Pannu said that the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign has been running continuously for the past 427 days. During this period, Punjab Police has seized large quantities of narcotics and significantly weakened the network of drug traffickers.
He said that the government’s strict action has dealt a major blow to drug syndicates, and continuous efforts are being made to dismantle their operations. Individuals who amassed wealth through illegal drug trade are also facing action under the government’s “peela panja” initiative.
Baltej Pannu reiterated that the Punjab Government is fully committed to making the state drug-free and will not tolerate any form of illegal activity. He emphasized that the campaign will continue until drugs are completely eradicated from Punjab.
He also appealed to the public to actively cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug trafficking and criminal activities. He said that public participation is crucial in making these campaigns more effective and ensuring long-term success.
