Washington: Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Donald Trump has indicated that the United States could consider resuming military action against Iran if the situation deteriorates, even as a new peace proposal from Tehran is under review.
Speaking to reporters and in a social media post, Trump expressed skepticism over Iran’s recently submitted 14-point plan, stating that it may fall short of expectations. He suggested that the proposal might not be acceptable, arguing that Iran has yet to face sufficient consequences for its past actions.
When questioned about the possibility of renewed strikes, Trump did not rule it out, saying action could be taken if Iran engages in what he described as “bad behavior,” though he did not clarify specific triggers.
The conflict, which began earlier this year involving the United States and Israel, has remained paused since early April following a ceasefire. Diplomatic efforts, including talks facilitated by Pakistan, have so far failed to produce a breakthrough. Iran’s latest proposal reportedly includes measures to end hostilities and address tensions around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian officials, meanwhile, have signaled readiness for both negotiation and confrontation. Senior figures in Tehran have stated that their armed forces remain prepared for any escalation, while also urging Washington to choose diplomacy over continued conflict.
The situation remains fluid, with global attention focused on whether renewed dialogue can prevent another phase of military escalation in the region.
