Amritsar: Member of Parliament Amritpal Singh, who is currently held in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam, was produced before an Amritsar court on Saturday through video conferencing regarding an ongoing legal matter. The proceedings saw the Member of Parliament participating remotely due to his current incarceration outside the state. During the session, his legal representative, Advocate Rituraj Singh, raised significant objections to the materials presented by the prosecution. The defence argued that the chargesheet filed against the MP is entirely baseless and requested additional time from the court to thoroughly examine the legal documents and prepare a formal response to the allegations.
The court acknowledged the request for more time and has scheduled the next hearing for Tuesday, May 5. This upcoming session will also be conducted via video conferencing to accommodate the logistical constraints of the MP’s current location in Assam. The legal team for Amritpal Singh has indicated that they are not only focusing on the immediate charges but are also considering broader judicial remedies to bring the trial closer to home.
According to the defence counsel, there are plans to potentially approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court to seek a transfer of the trial proceedings to Punjab. The move is aimed at ensuring that Amritpal Singh can be physically present for his trial within his home state, rather than participating from a distance. As the legal battle intensifies, the focus remains on the upcoming Tuesday hearing where the defence is expected to file more detailed objections against the current charges.
