Nepal Airlines Issues Apology After Map Controversy Over Jammu & Kashmir

Kathmandu: Nepal Airlines has issued a public apology after facing criticism over a social media post that incorrectly depicted Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan in its network map.

The controversy erupted after the airline shared a promotional graphic online that included what it later described as “significant cartographic inaccuracies.” The post quickly drew backlash, prompting the airline to delete it within hours on Wednesday.

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the airline acknowledged the mistake and clarified that the map did not reflect the official position of either the airline or the government of Nepal.

“We sincerely regret the error in the network map recently shared on our social media platforms. It contained serious inaccuracies regarding international boundaries,” the statement read.

The airline further said it has initiated an internal review process to ensure such lapses do not occur in the future. “We are taking immediate steps to improve our review mechanisms so that all published materials meet high standards of accuracy,” it added.

Emphasising its commitment to maintaining cordial ties, the airline expressed regret over any unintended offense caused. “We deeply value our relationships with neighbouring countries and friends across the region,” the statement noted.

The incident has sparked discussions on the importance of accurate representation in official communications, especially in sensitive geopolitical contexts.
