Ajnala: Amritpal Singh was on Thursday remanded to judicial custody by a court in Ajnala after being produced via video conferencing at the end of his police remand.
The court directed that the MP remain in custody until April 30, marking a new phase in the ongoing legal proceedings against him. The hearing concluded without any disruption, and the judge passed the order after reviewing submissions from both sides.
Defence counsel Rituraj Singh stated that investigators had not made any recoveries during the period of police custody. He also pointed out that the police did not request an extension of the remand, which led to the court transferring the accused to judicial custody.
Amritpal Singh had been brought into the case after the expiry of his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). He was earlier lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail, where he had been held under preventive detention provisions.
Following the end of the NSA period, Punjab Police moved swiftly to proceed with legal action in an earlier registered case. The matter relates to FIR No. 39, which includes serious charges such as attempt to murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
According to legal representatives, several co-accused in the same case have already been presented before the court, and proceedings are continuing in a phased manner.
The case remains under judicial consideration, with further hearings expected in the coming days.
