New Delhi: A long-standing dispute over parking and financial issues turned fatal on Friday evening, April 17, 2026, when a 62-year-old businessman and his son were stabbed to death in South Delhi’s Alaknanda area. The incident took place at Tara Apartments, a residential complex in the Chittaranjan (CR) Park police station jurisdiction. The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Sood and his son Karan Sood (27), both residents of O-Block who had lived in the society for 15 years and ran a local real estate business.

The attack occurred around 6:15 PM when the accused, identified as Asad—a resident of F-Block in the same complex—allegedly called the victims outside their home. A heated argument quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, during which Asad reportedly used a sharp weapon to stab Rakesh, Karan, and their relative, Rahul, multiple times. While the father and son were declared dead on arrival at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket, Rahul survived the attack and is currently in stable condition.

Key Investigation Details:

  • Motive: Preliminary investigations by the Delhi Police reveal a year-long history of enmity between the families over monetary issues and designated parking spots. Neighbors reported that the two families “bickered frequently,” and police had previously intervened in a scuffle between Karan and Asad two years ago.

  • Police Action: Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal confirmed that an FIR has been registered at the CR Park police station. While initial reports indicated Asad was on the run, police have since detained him after tracking his movements through CCTV footage.

  • Resident Concerns: Some residents of Tara Apartments alleged that delays in medical and police response forced them to transport the victims to the hospital in private vehicles, with one neighbor reporting he had to carry Karan in the boot of his car to reach Saket.

The upscale society, known for its interconnected three-story buildings, remained under a heavy security blanket on Saturday as forensic teams collected evidence from the blood-splattered site between O and F blocks.
