Fatehgarh Sahib: A tragic road accident in Fatehgarh Sahib claimed six lives and left more than 20 people injured after a bus carrying devotees overturned late Tuesday night.

According to police officials, the incident took place near Himmatpura on the Morinda–Chunni Road in the Bassi Pathana area around 10 pm. The passengers were returning from Anandpur Sahib after offering prayers on the occasion of the Vaisakhi festival.

Preliminary findings suggest that a mechanical issue in the vehicle led to the driver losing control, causing the bus to overturn on the road. The impact resulted in the deaths of six passengers, including a woman, while 21 others sustained injuries of varying severity.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar confirmed the casualties and said emergency teams rushed to the spot soon after the accident. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, where some are reported to be in critical condition.

Most of the victims were residents of Main Majri village in the district, returning home after participating in religious observances. The accident has cast a shadow over the festive occasion, leaving families in grief.

Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the mishap, while authorities are also reviewing vehicle safety aspects to prevent such incidents in the future.
