Chandigarh: Residents of Chandigarh and its adjoining areas are set to experience a steady increase in temperatures over the coming days, even as weather authorities have issued a warning for thunderstorms and gusty winds later this week.

According to the India Meteorological Department, maximum temperatures across Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula are expected to rise by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next five days. However, no significant fluctuations are anticipated beyond this period.

On Tuesday, Chandigarh recorded a daytime high of 35.3°C, slightly above the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature dropped to 15.4°C, remaining below normal. Humidity levels were relatively high in the morning before easing by afternoon.

In nearby areas, Mohali registered the warmest night in Punjab with a minimum temperature of 19.8°C, while Patiala recorded the highest daytime temperature at 37.2°C.

The forecast indicates largely clear skies midweek, with temperatures gradually climbing. By the weekend, mercury levels are likely to touch around 38°C. Meanwhile, partly cloudy conditions are expected to develop on Thursday and Friday.

A yellow alert has been issued for Friday and Saturday, with the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated locations across the Tricity region.

Meteorologists have also noted that Chandigarh has received significantly higher rainfall than usual this season, recording over 70 mm since March—well above the normal levels.

Authorities have advised residents to stay alert during the forecasted storm activity and take precautions against rising heat conditions in the days ahead.
