Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flagged off Suzuki’s first global strategic Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the ‘e-VITARA’, from the company’s Hansalpur motor plant in Ahmedabad.

The Made-in-India electric SUV will be exported to over 100 countries, including advanced markets such as Europe and Japan. With this, India takes on a pivotal role as Suzuki’s global manufacturing hub for electric vehicles, marking a major step in the country’s journey towards clean mobility.

At the event, the Prime Minister also inaugurated two major projects at the Suzuki Motor plant, reinforcing his vision of Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

In a parallel development, Modi launched the next phase of India’s battery ecosystem with the beginning of hybrid battery electrode production at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant in Gujarat. The facility, a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki, will localize more than 80 percent of battery value within India, strengthening domestic manufacturing and green energy innovation.

A day earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth ₹5,400 crore at Khodaldham ground in Ahmedabad. He was greeted with a grand roadshow on his arrival, receiving a warm welcome from citizens.

During his address, Modi expressed condolences to families affected by cloudbursts and heavy rains across the country, including Gujarat. He said nature’s fury posed a global challenge, and assured that both the Centre and state governments were working together on relief and rescue operations.
