Bokaro: In a significant crackdown on administrative negligence and corruption, 28 police personnel in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district were suspended on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The action followed the recovery of the skeletal remains of an 18-year-old woman who had been missing for eight months. Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh confirmed that the suspended staff, including the Officer-in-Charge of the Pindrajora police station, were found guilty of dereliction of duty, breaching confidentiality, and actively colluding with the prime accused.

The skeletal remains, comprising 19 bone fragments and strands of hair, were discovered on Saturday in a secluded area near Chas College. Investigations revealed a disturbing level of misconduct within the local police force; suspended personnel were reportedly seen partying with the accused and were involved in illicit monetary transactions with him. SP Singh noted that such actions had severely tarnished the image of the police among the public. The accused was eventually apprehended after a technical analysis of call detail records (CDR) and other human intelligence led to a confession during sustained interrogation.

The victim had been missing since July 21 last year, when she left for undergraduate admissions at Chas College. The accused, who had been in contact with her for three years, allegedly murdered her after she pressured him for marriage. He led investigators to the site where he had stabbed her and hidden the body in the bushes. The case had previously drawn the ire of the Jharkhand High Court after the victim’s mother filed a petition. A division bench headed by Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad recently pulled up DGP Tadasha Mishra over procedural lapses and the alleged assault of a relative of the victim by police officers.
