Punjab temperatures set to rise as Western Disturbance weakens

New Delhi: Punjab is beginning to experience a steady rise in temperatures as the influence of a western disturbance over the Himalayan region gradually subsides. While areas adjoining Pathankot and the borders of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir saw light overnight rainfall, the Meteorological Department in Chandigarh has forecasted dry and clear weather for the majority of the state on Sunday, April 12, 2026. Daytime conditions are expected to remain stable with light winds providing minimal relief from the intensifying sun.

Although temperatures have increased by approximately 1.6°C compared to Saturday, they remain roughly 3°C below the typical seasonal average. Patiala emerged as the warmest city in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 33.4°C. In Chandigarh, the mercury touched 32°C, which is still 2.1°C below the normal threshold for mid-April. Despite the absence of any immediate weather alerts, officials have advised residents to prepare for a gradual warming trend that will likely push temperatures between 32°C and 35°C across various districts.

The heat is expected to be particularly pronounced in the southern and western belts, including Amritsar, Fazilka, Muktsar, Faridkot, Moonak, and Mansa. Meteorological experts have noted that while a weak western disturbance may reach the Western Himalayan region around April 15, it is only expected to cause partial cloud cover or localized light drizzles. Such minor shifts are unlikely to halt the broader transition toward summer as the state moves steadily into hotter conditions.
