Batala — In a major crackdown on organised crime, Punjab Police has busted a cross-border drug and illegal weapons smuggling racket, arresting three accused, including a juvenile, and recovering a large quantity of contraband.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the operation led to the seizure of 6.5 kg of heroin, a .30 calibre pistol with six live cartridges, and ₹1 lakh in suspected drug money. The police also impounded a Toyota Fortuner used by the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Nishan Singh from Mulianwal in Batala and Ravipal Singh from Raipur, along with a juvenile whose identity has been withheld.
The breakthrough came during an ongoing investigation into an extortion-related firing incident that took place on March 30 within the jurisdiction of Civil Lines police station in Batala. Earlier, two accused—Vansh and Sukhchain alias Jashan—had been arrested in connection with the case, leading police to uncover the larger smuggling network.
Officials said sustained interrogation and detailed analysis of backward and forward linkages helped expose the cross-border operation, which involved trafficking of narcotics and illegal firearms.
The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling organised crime networks and ensuring the state’s security, in line with directives issued by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Further investigations are underway to identify additional links and collaborators involved in the racket.
