CHANDIGARH, April 10, 2026: In a major push towards accessible and affordable healthcare, the Punjab Government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is expanding the reach of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, ensuring that families across the state can receive timely treatment without worrying about financial burden.
Medical emergencies often come without warning and place heavy stress on families, not only due to health concerns but also due to rising treatment costs. To address this, the state government launched the Sehat Card initiative, which is now emerging as a strong support system for lakhs of families.
Rapid Expansion, Over 2 Lakh Treatments Delivered
The government is issuing nearly 50,000 Sehat Cards daily through large-scale enrolment drives being conducted across villages, towns and cities. The scheme is witnessing strong public response as more families come forward to secure financial protection.
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that the scheme is inclusive and open to all citizens without any restriction on age, gender or income.
He highlighted that more than 2 lakh treatments have already been carried out under the scheme, including critical procedures such as cancer treatment, heart surgeries and orthopaedic operations.
So far, treatments worth over ₹300 crore have been provided, reflecting the growing impact of the scheme on the ground. The initiative has also been strengthened with a budget allocation of ₹2,000 crore for the financial year 2026–27 to ensure its continued expansion.
₹10 Lakh Cashless Treatment for Every Family
Under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, every eligible family is entitled to cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh per year at both government and empanelled private hospitals.
This ensures that patients do not delay treatment due to financial constraints and can access immediate medical care during emergencies without arranging funds.
To make the scheme easily accessible, the Punjab Government is organising daily enrolment camps from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at community locations such as Gurudwaras, Panchayat Ghars, temples and community centres.
These camps are especially helpful for people who may find it difficult to visit formal registration centres.
Simple Registration Process for Citizens
The government has introduced a simple and hassle-free registration process so that more families can benefit from the scheme.
Residents can directly visit a Common Service Centre (CSC), government enrolment camp or Seva Kendra without any prior appointment.
Applicants are required to carry basic documents such as Aadhaar Card, Voter ID and birth certificates for children. All family members must be residents of Punjab and should be registered together, as the ₹10 lakh coverage is shared across the family.
At the registration centre, officials assist in completing the process, after which beneficiaries receive an SMS confirming activation of their Sehat Card.
Documents Required for Registration
To ensure smooth registration, residents are advised to carry essential documents including Aadhaar Card (identity and address proof), Voter ID, Smart Ration Card (if available) and J-Form for farmers where applicable.
These documents help verify eligibility and speed up the enrolment process.
Government Focus on Universal Healthcare Access
Reaffirming its commitment, the Punjab Government said that the aim of the scheme is to ensure that no family is deprived of quality healthcare due to lack of money.
With continuous enrolment drives and increasing awareness, the government is working to cover every household under the Sehat Card scheme, making healthcare more accessible, affordable and efficient across the state.
