Chennai: Shreyas Iyer, captain of Punjab Kings, has been fined ₹24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his side’s Indian Premier League 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate requirements. According to the league’s official advisory, this marked Punjab’s second such offence this season, leading to an increased fine for the skipper.
Despite the disciplinary setback, Punjab Kings continued their strong run in the tournament, registering a five-wicket victory over the five-time champions on Friday. The win marked their second consecutive triumph this season.
Under IPL regulations, repeated violations of over-rate norms attract stricter penalties, including higher fines and possible additional sanctions if the trend continues.
While the team celebrated another important win, the fine serves as a reminder of the league’s strict enforcement of match timing rules, which are aimed at ensuring smooth conduct of games and adherence to broadcast schedules.
