Jammu: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is deeply concerned about the recent cloudburst in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir and is closely monitoring the situation.

Singh, accompanied by Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, visited the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu where 16 injured victims are receiving treatment. He expressed satisfaction over the medical care provided, praising the doctors for their dedicated efforts.

The Defence Minister had planned to visit the disaster-hit village of Chisoti but was unable to do so due to inclement weather and a fresh landslide blocking the route at Pathernaki. “I had planned to visit the spot but couldn’t. We are now going to Raj Bhavan where we will interact with affected families through videoconferencing,” Singh told reporters.

The cloudburst struck Chisoti, the last motorable village on the way to the Machail Mata temple, on August 14. The calamity claimed 65 lives, left more than 100 injured, and 32 people remain missing. Singh assured that the government is committed to providing full support to the victims and their families.
