CHANDIGARH, March 30, 2026: In a major political development in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a strong boost as several leaders from Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined the party.
The leaders were formally welcomed into AAP by Rajbir Singh Ghumman, OSD to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, in the presence of Punjab Khadi Welfare Board Chairman Gagandeep Singh Ahuja.
Several Senior Leaders Join AAP
Among the prominent leaders who joined AAP were Sahib Singh Chhajjalwadi, Vice Chairman of the SC Wing (Baba Bakala, Punjab Congress), and Sarabjit Kaur Dhaliwal, District President of the Women Wing (Amritsar Rural, Congress).
Several other Congress leaders and grassroots representatives also joined, including Satjit Singh (District General Secretary, Congress Amritsar Rural), Kuldeep Kaur (District Secretary), Jaskaran Singh (General Secretary), and Dr. Charanjit Singh, former Civil Surgeon from Batala.
Leaders from other parties also joined AAP, including Narinder Sharma (Block Congress President, Attari), Joginder Singh (former Panch and BJP Mandal President), Gurpreet Singh (Block Samiti Member), and many current and former sarpanches from different villages.
Notable village representatives included Karaj Singh (Jheeta Kalan), Captain (village Bohar), Gurjoban Singh (Jahangir), Keval Singh (Fatehgarh Shukarchak), and Tarsem Singh (Jethuwal).
In addition, several local leaders such as Santokh Singh, Dilbagh Singh (Numberdar), Darshan Singh (Mehniyan), Sethu (Malewal), Navjot Singh, Gurpreet Singh (Sohiyan), Hardev Singh (former Block Samiti member), Surjit Singh, and Baljinder Singh also joined AAP along with many panchs and grassroots representatives from nearby villages.
Leaders from other political groups, including Daljit Singh (BC President, Attari), Balhar Singh (Block President, Mirankot), Sahib Singh (SC Wing Vice Chairman, Baba Bakala), and Gurvinder Singh (Executive President, Youth Akali Dal, Amritsar), also extended their support to AAP.
Leaders Express Trust in Bhagwant Mann Government
Speaking on the occasion, Rajbir Singh Ghumman said that leaders from different parties joining AAP shows the growing trust of people in the policies and governance of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The newly joined leaders also expressed confidence in CM Mann’s leadership. They said they are impressed by the government’s work for the people and its transparent governance.
“We are impressed by the people-focused initiatives and clean governance of the AAP government. It is the only party working for the welfare of all sections of society, which inspired us to take this decision,” they said.
Focus on Strengthening Party at Grassroots
The leaders further said that they will work to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and ensure that the policies and achievements of the AAP government reach every household.
They added that they will continue to work actively among people and support the government’s vision for development in Punjab.
