New Delhi: Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary, who serves as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has reportedly received a death threat from an anonymous caller. The incident has triggered an immediate review of his security protocols and a high-level police investigation. According to officials, the threatening call was traced to Murshidabad in West Bengal, leading to a coordinated effort between Delhi and West Bengal police to apprehend the suspect.
The threat was reported to have occurred around 11 am on March 18, when an unidentified individual contacted the minister’s office. A formal complaint was subsequently lodged at the Tughlak Road police station by the minister’s personal assistant, Vishvendra Shah. The complaint details that the caller not only threatened to kill the minister but specifically mentioned the use of advanced weaponry, such as MP5 submachine guns, to carry out the act.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, the caller allegedly demonstrated access to sensitive information, including the minister’s official “tour programme” or itinerary. Subsequent WhatsApp messages received from the same number included threatening remarks written directly onto the itinerary and voice notes reiterating the intent to cause harm. The caller reportedly claimed during the communications that the information and instructions had been “sent from above,” raising concerns about a potential larger conspiracy or a significant breach of official data.
The investigation has also taken into account reports of suspicious activity near Chaudhary’s residence in the days leading up to the threat. The complaint mentions that a white car with tinted windows was observed stationed near the property for an extended period, with its occupants allegedly monitoring the movement of the minister and his staff. Preliminary technical investigations have identified the suspect as Mohammad Ismail, a resident of Murshidabad. While efforts to arrest him are ongoing, security agencies have stepped up surveillance and protection for the minister to mitigate any immediate risks.
