Delhi: Residents across New Delhi and nearby areas of the National Capital Region woke up to light showers on Sunday morning, offering relief from the recent dry weather conditions.

Several localities in the capital, including Rafi Marg, Parliament Street, Chirag Delhi, Man Singh Road, Patparganj and Peeragarhi, reported rainfall during the early hours. Parts of the wider Delhi-NCR also experienced brief showers.

According to the India Meteorological Department, about 5 mm of rainfall had been recorded in the city by 8:30 am. The weather office noted that the minimum temperature settled at 20.2 degrees Celsius, which is about 5.1 degrees higher than the seasonal average. The maximum temperature for the day is expected to hover near 28 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists have issued a yellow alert for the day, predicting intermittent light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds that could reach speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.

Meanwhile, the city’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category. Data released by the Central Pollution Control Board showed the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 190 around 9 am.

As per CPCB standards, AQI levels between 0 and 50 are classified as ‘good’, 51 to 100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 as ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 as ‘poor’, 301 to 400 as ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 as ‘severe’.

Weather officials said the rainfall could bring temporary relief from dust and pollution, although changing weather patterns may continue over the next few days.
