Mumbai: Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for violating the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand national cricket team. The match took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

According to the ICC, the Indian pacer was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with throwing the ball or any piece of cricket equipment at or near another player in a manner considered inappropriate or potentially dangerous during an international fixture.

The incident occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings when a throw from Arshdeep struck Kiwi batter Daryl Mitchell on the body. The moment briefly created tension on the field, although the situation was quickly defused as the players resumed play soon after.

Following the match, Arshdeep clarified that there was no intention to cause harm and said he had apologised to Mitchell for the throw. The two players were later seen exchanging handshakes and sharing a friendly conversation after the game.

Explaining the situation during the post-match presentation, the Indian bowler said the throw unexpectedly deviated before hitting the batter. He added that he immediately approached Mitchell to express regret and clarify that the act was unintentional.

Arshdeep also reflected on the team’s performance throughout the tournament, praising the depth of talent in the squad. He noted that the presence of several match-winners in the team had built strong belief within the dressing room from the beginning of the competition.

Despite contributing significantly to India’s bowling attack during the final, the young pacer admitted that the magnitude of the team’s success had not yet fully registered with him. He said the emotions of winning such a major tournament would likely sink in only after a few days.

India went on to defeat New Zealand convincingly in the final, securing another T20 World Cup title and reinforcing its status as one of the most successful teams in the format.
