Indian Embassy Confirms No Indian Deaths in Al-Kharj Projectile Strike

Riyadh: The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has confirmed that no Indian citizens lost their lives after a military projectile struck a residential compound in Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia. The clarification came on Monday following earlier reports suggesting that an Indian national might have been among those killed.

In an update shared on social media, the embassy described it as a relief that no Indian fatalities were recorded in the incident, which occurred on Sunday evening. However, one Indian citizen sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical care at a government-run hospital in Al-Kharj.

According to the embassy, officials have remained in close contact with Saudi authorities to stay informed about the developments surrounding the attack. Y. Sabir, the Counsellor for Community Welfare at the mission, traveled to Al-Kharj on Sunday night to check on the injured individual and offer assistance.

Saudi Civil Defence had earlier reported that the projectile struck a residential complex housing employees of a maintenance and cleaning company. Initial information indicated that two people were killed in the strike — one reportedly identified as an Indian national and the other a Bangladeshi citizen — while 12 others were injured. The authorities, however, had not officially disclosed the identities of the victims.

The incident comes at a time of rising tensions in the region. On February 28, the United States and Israel carried out coordinated military strikes on Iran after escalating diplomatic pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump urging Tehran to negotiate a new agreement on its nuclear programme. Iran’s response intensified the conflict, widening concerns across the Gulf region.

Officials continue to monitor the situation as regional tensions remain high.
