CHANDIGARH: In one of the biggest technological reforms in Punjab’s education sector, Harjot Singh Bains announced a ₹400 crore digitalisation project under the Punjab Sikhya Kranti, aimed at transforming government schools with modern technology. The initiative includes deployment of 38,649 new desktop computers across 5,012 schools, establishment of dedicated computer labs in 5,000 schools, and installation of 8,268 Interactive Flat Panels in 3,694 schools. The project will replace outdated systems and equip Senior Secondary, High and Middle Schools with advanced digital infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann described the initiative as a historic milestone, stating that digital infrastructure on such a scale has never been introduced in Punjab’s government schools before. He said the government aims to prepare students for future challenges by ensuring access to modern digital tools. The Education Minister added that the rollout has already begun and new equipment will be delivered to schools in every district by March 20, marking a major shift from traditional classrooms to smart, technology-driven learning environments.

The government has also directed school heads to organise community participation programmes to showcase the transformation in public education. The initiative will be implemented with strict monitoring and safety protocols, with the aim of strengthening digital literacy, improving learning outcomes, and preparing students for higher education and employment in a rapidly evolving world.
