New Delhi: Customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi successfully intercepted a massive consignment of high-quality narcotics on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Two Indian passengers, arriving from Krabi, Thailand, were apprehended at Terminal 3 with 23.9 kg of suspected ganja (marijuana), valued at approximately ₹23.9 crore in the illicit international market.

The seizure occurred after the passengers, who arrived on February 22, were intercepted at the green channel based on specific profiling by the customs intelligence unit. Upon subjecting their luggage to X-ray screening and a subsequent detailed physical examination, officers discovered 14 polythene pouches containing a green-coloured narcotic substance. The contraband was cleverly concealed within two trolley bags, with eight pouches found in one and six in the other.

A preliminary diagnostic test confirmed the substance to be marijuana. According to a statement issued by the Customs Department, the total net weight of the recovered narcotics was 23,936 grams. The high valuation of the seizure—nearly ₹1 crore per kilogram—suggests that the contraband was a premium strain of the drug, often sourced from regions where cultivation is regulated or legalised.

Both individuals have been placed under arrest under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The authorities have taken the seized material into custody and launched a comprehensive investigation to identify the broader network involved in this smuggling attempt. This incident highlights the ongoing vigilance at the national capital’s primary aviation hub against the rising trend of narcotic trafficking from Southeast Asian destinations.
