Trump Administration Revokes Over 6,000 Student Visas Amid Immigration Crackdown

Washington D.C.: The U.S. State Department has cancelled more than 6,000 student visas since the beginning of this year, intensifying the Trump administration’s push for stricter immigration control.

Officials said most of the cancellations were linked to overstays and violations of U.S. law, including assault, driving under the influence, and burglary. In addition, around 200 to 300 visas were revoked under the Immigration and Nationality Act on grounds of suspected links to terrorism. The provision bars entry of foreign nationals believed to be engaged in or likely to engage in terrorist activities.

The crackdown highlights the administration’s broader plan to reshape immigration policy and its impact on higher education. Student visa holders who joined pro-Palestinian demonstrations by organizing campus encampments or voicing support for Palestine have also faced added scrutiny in recent months.
