Abohar: A late-night drive turned fatal for five youths when their car slammed into a road divider in Punjab’s Abohar, leaving three dead and two injured in the early hours of Monday.
The accident occurred around 1 am as the group was returning from Fazilka. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was coming down the railway overbridge from the Hanumangarh Road side and heading towards Rotary Chowk when the driver reportedly lost control. The car crashed into the divider at high speed, mangling the front portion and damaging the concrete structure.
Two of the occupants succumbed to their injuries on the spot. The remaining three were trapped inside the wrecked vehicle and had to be rescued before being rushed to the civil hospital in Abohar. Doctors declared one of them dead on arrival, while the other two were administered first aid and later referred to a hospital in Faridkot for further treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Uday (24), his younger brother Vishal (22), and their cousin Raman (22). Uday, who was married and father to two children, leaves behind a grieving family. The injured, Roshan and Anmol, are currently undergoing treatment.
All five were residents of Balluana village near Abohar and worked as contractors in kinnow orchards in the region. Family members said they were alerted about the tragedy through a phone call around 1.30 am.
Station House Officer Ravinder Singh of City-1 police station said the bodies have been placed in the mortuary for post-mortem examination, and statements of the bereaved family are being recorded as part of the investigation.
