Chamba: Residents of Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district were jolted awake early Wednesday morning after the region witnessed two back-to-back earthquakes within an hour.

The first tremor, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale, struck at around 3:27 am at a depth of nearly 20 kilometers, officials from the meteorological department confirmed.

Barely an hour later, at 4:39 am, another quake hit the district, this time stronger, registering a magnitude of 4.0.

Although the repeated tremors caused panic among locals, authorities clarified that no damage to property or reports of injury have surfaced so far. The district administration is keeping a close watch on the situation.

Himachal Pradesh, located in the seismically active Himalayan belt, frequently experiences low to moderate intensity earthquakes, keeping both residents and disaster management teams on alert.
