Dehradun: A 50-year-old businessman was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants near Silver City Cinema in Dehradun in the early hours of Friday, police said, marking the third murder in the city within 11 days.
According to Dehradun SP (City) Pramod Kumar, the incident took place around 1:15 a.m. when the victim, identified as Vikram Sharma, was stepping out of a gym in the area. Sharma was reportedly the owner of a stone crusher unit in Udham Singh Nagar district.
Police said the attackers fled the scene after opening fire. A case has been registered and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments and questioning potential witnesses.
The latest killing has intensified concerns among residents, as it follows two other recent murders in the city. On Wednesday, a gas agency owner was shot dead in broad daylight outside the Tibetan Market in central Dehradun. Earlier, on February 2, a 22-year-old woman was found murdered, her throat slit with a sharp weapon.
The spate of violent incidents over the past fortnight has triggered anxiety in the state capital, with locals calling for stronger policing and enhanced security measures. Authorities have assured that all angles are being probed and that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
