Gurdaspur: Gurdaspur witnessed a health scare on Tuesday night when ten students from a government-run Meritorious School were admitted to the Civil Hospital after complaining of sudden illness following dinner at the school hostel.
According to preliminary information, dinner was served to the students at around 8.30 pm. Within a short span of time, several students began experiencing stomach pain and discomfort. School authorities promptly arranged for them to be taken to the Civil Hospital, where they were admitted for observation and treatment. Doctors said the students’ condition is stable and they are being closely monitored.
The incident sparked concern among parents, some of whom alleged that the food served at the hostel was of poor quality and not nutritious. Family members gathered at the hospital, demanding a thorough inquiry into the matter and strict action if negligence is found.
However, school principal Rajiv Mahajan rejected the allegations, maintaining that the students were provided with properly prepared and wholesome meals. He stated that the food was served as per the prescribed menu and hygiene standards, adding that the exact cause of the students’ illness would only be known after medical examination and reports.
Hospital authorities said samples of the food may be examined if required, while the education department is expected to look into the incident. Meanwhile, the affected students are reported to be out of danger, providing some relief to their anxious families.
