New Delhi: While presenting the Union Budget 2026-27 in Parliament, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced two key initiatives aimed at enhancing livelihood and accessibility for Divyangjans. The measures are part of the government’s vision of “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas”, ensuring inclusive growth for all sections of society.
Divyang Kaushal Yojana
Under this scheme, persons with disabilities will receive customized training for employment in sectors such as Information Technology (IT), Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comics (AVGC), hospitality, and food and beverages. The programme will focus on task-oriented and process-driven roles, providing industry-relevant skills to enable dignified employment opportunities tailored to each Divyang group.
Divyang Sahara Yojana
The Finance Minister highlighted the importance of timely access to high-quality assistive devices. Under this scheme, the government will:
-
Support the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) to scale up production, invest in research and development, and integrate advanced technologies such as AI in assistive devices.
-
Strengthen PM Divyasha Kendras and set up Assistive Technology Marts, modern retail-style centres where Divyangjans and senior citizens can experience, try, and purchase assistive products.
Sitharaman said these initiatives are designed to provide inclusive opportunities, enhance independence, and ensure meaningful participation of Divyangjans in economic and social life.
