Chandigarh: The weather pattern in Punjab continues to fluctuate, with residents experiencing a mix of dense fog, rain, hailstorms and sunshine over the past few days. Several parts of the state are still witnessing foggy conditions, leading to a drop in temperatures.

According to the latest forecast issued by the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, rainfall is likely across parts of Punjab on January 31 and February 1. The department had earlier issued an orange alert for dense fog and cold wave conditions for Friday.

While mornings and evenings remain chilly, a slight rise in daytime temperatures has been recorded. The maximum temperature has increased by around 1.4 degrees Celsius, bringing it closer to normal levels. Faridkot recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 3 degrees Celsius.

The weather office said light to moderate rainfall is expected at several places on February 1. In addition, isolated areas may receive light to moderate rain on January 31 as well as on February 2 and 3. No significant change is expected in minimum temperatures over the next 48 hours, after which a rise of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius is likely.

Cold wave conditions are expected at isolated places in districts such as Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur and Malerkotla. Dense fog is also likely in parts of Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa.

Apart from these, dense fog conditions may prevail in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and SAS Nagar (Mohali), the department added.
