Nanded, January 24, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today paid obeisance with deep reverence at Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra. On this occasion, he said that his government will raise the demand before the Maharashtra Government to declare Nanded Sahib as a Holy City.

He said that this sacred city holds immense spiritual significance not only for Sikhs but for the entire humanity. Recalling that the Punjab Government has already declared Shri Amritsar Sahib, Shri Anandpur Sahib and Talwandi Sabo as Holy Cities, the Chief Minister emphasized that his government is fully committed to the widespread propagation of the teachings and philosophy of the Guru Sahibs.

The Chief Minister also paid obeisance at the sacred place of Kalgidhar Patshah Ji and met the managers of the religious shrine. On this occasion, he witnessed a large gathering of devotees and local residents who had come to bow at the holy site, reflecting the deep bond between the Panth, its historic institutions and the people inspired by them.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Nanded Sahib is a sacred place not only for Sikhs but for the whole of humanity, as the Tenth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, spent a significant part of his life in this holy city.

He reiterated that the Punjab Government will strongly raise the demand before the Maharashtra Government to grant Holy City status to Nanded Sahib, which would be a true tribute to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He further said that recently the state government observed the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the Ninth Guru, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, with great reverence and respect. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life for the protection of religious freedom and human rights.

Recalling an important decision taken last year, the Chief Minister said that in November, on the occasion of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom day, the Punjab Government declared three cities housing Sikh Takht Sahibs as Holy Cities. He said that official notifications declaring Walled City Amritsar, Talwandi Sabo and Shri Anandpur Sahib as Holy Cities have already been issued, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the global Sikh community.

He added that on similar lines, the Maharashtra Government should also declare Nanded Sahib as a Holy City, and the Punjab Government will make every possible effort in this direction.

The Chief Minister also announced the complete renovation of Punjab Bhawan located in Nanded Sahib. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Punjab Bhawan constructed by the Punjab Government will be upgraded with modern facilities for the convenience of devotees. He also stated that the supply of Verka milk products for devotees in Nanded will be further streamlined. He assured that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring all possible facilities for devotees visiting this sacred place.

Speaking about the contribution of Punjabis to the nation, the Chief Minister said that Punjabis have played a glorious role in the freedom struggle, in making the country self-reliant in food production, and in safeguarding India’s unity, integrity and sovereignty.

He said that whether it is defending the borders or making sacrifices, Punjabis are always at the forefront. It is a matter of pride that during any disaster, Punjabis often reach the spot to serve the needy even before organizations like the Red Cross.

The Chief Minister said it is the duty of the Punjab Government to preserve the glorious heritage of the great Guru Sahibs for future generations. He said that the government is walking on the path shown by the Guru Sahibs, who taught humanity to stand against oppression, tyranny and injustice, and gave the message of “Sarbat Da Bhala” (welfare of all).

He further said that in line with this commitment, the Punjab Government recently observed the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji at Shri Anandpur Sahib. The sole objective is to connect the youth with the lives, philosophy and supreme sacrifices of the Guru Sahibs for the protection of humanity.

During his visit, the Chief Minister offered prayers at Takht Shri Hazur Sahib for the progress, development and prosperity of the state. He said that Takht Shri Hazur Sahib is one of the five supreme seats of Sikhism, symbolizing spiritual, divine and moral values for the community.

He informed that the other four Sikh Takhts are Shri Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar, Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib in Shri Anandpur Sahib, Takht Shri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo, and Takht Shri Patna Sahib in Bihar.

Paying tribute to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Chief Minister said that the Tenth Guru made unparalleled contributions towards establishing secular values, protecting human rights and safeguarding religious freedom, and sacrificed his entire family for these ideals. He added that Guru Sahib spent an important part of his life on the sacred land of Nanded Sahib.

The Chief Minister said that getting the opportunity to pay obeisance at this holy place is a matter of great fortune for him. Bhagwant Singh Mann prayed to the Almighty to grant him the strength to serve the people of Punjab with greater humility and dedication. After the ardas at the Gurudwara Sahib, he reaffirmed his government’s firm commitment to serve people without any discrimination of caste, colour, race or religion and to build a harmonious society.
