Punjab Government Launches Pilot Pension Service Portal, Targets 3 Lakh Beneficiaries

Chandigarh: Pensioners in Punjab will soon be able to resolve their pension-related issues without stepping into a government office. The state government has begun testing a new Seva portal designed to streamline pension services and ensure timely payments for retiring employees.

Under the pilot project, currently active in six key departments, Health, Education, Police, Water Supply and Sanitation, among others, data of retiring staff is being uploaded and processed. The system will also enable pension disbursal directly through banks without delays. Officials expect the full-fledged portal to be operational by Diwali.

Life Certificate Submission Made Easy

One of the major features of the portal will allow pensioners to submit their annual life certificate online from home. This is aimed at removing a long-standing hassle for elderly citizens who often travel or wait in long queues just to complete the formality.

Digital Grievance Redressal

Each pensioner will receive a unique ID to access the portal. A dedicated Grievance section will let them register complaints, which will automatically be directed to the concerned officer. A fixed time frame will be set for resolution, with accountability mechanisms in place. Senior officials in Chandigarh will also monitor the process in real time, ensuring transparency. Any deliberate delay by officers will attract strict action.

Scope and Limitations

The initiative is limited to government employees and retirees. Staff from boards and corporations will not be included, as their employment structures and service rules differ, even though senior IAS and PCS officers are posted in those bodies.

With around three lakh pensioners in Punjab, the government hopes the digital initiative will reduce paperwork, curb delays, and bring efficiency to the system. If successful, it could become a model for other states to follow.
