Chandigarh: The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Thursday approved several major decisions aimed at strengthening governance and boosting agricultural support in the state.

In a significant move, the Cabinet repealed the notification for the Land Pooling Policy 2025, marking a shift in the government’s land management approach. The policy had earlier sparked widespread protests from farmers and opposition parties, who claimed it was against the interests of landowners.

The Cabinet also cleared amendments to the Punjab Cooperative Societies Act, 1961, with the aim of improving the functioning and efficiency of cooperative institutions across the state.

To enhance rural governance, the government approved the creation of a new post of Panchayat Development Secretary, which will play a crucial role in strengthening grassroots administration.

In addition, the Cabinet granted retroactive approval to the constitution of a group of ministers tasked with monitoring crop procurement processes. It also approved the formation of a Cabinet sub-committee to streamline decision-making and ensure effective policy implementation.

Officials said these steps reflect the government’s focus on governance reforms, agricultural welfare, and responsive policymaking.
