New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested a 26-year-old man allegedly involved in supplying illegal firearms across the Delhi-NCR region, recovering two high-end pistols and six live cartridges from his possession, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Ankit, also known as Munna, hails from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and is believed to be part of a larger interstate arms trafficking network. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to entering the illegal firearms trade after being released from jail and named a supplier known as Sonu, alias Kale, as his source for weapons.

Police said Ankit is a habitual offender, with six prior criminal cases, including charges related to murder, robbery, Arms Act violations, and offences under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Aditya Gautam, a police tip-off on January 2 led to the operation near Shastri Park Metro Station. A team laid a trap after receiving intelligence that an Uttar Pradesh-based arms supplier would arrive in the area.

“The suspect arrived in an auto-rickshaw and was spotted by a secret informer. He tried to flee but was captured after a short pursuit,” DCP Gautam said.

A search of the accused yielded two sophisticated pistols—one STAR and one BERETTA—along with six live rounds. A case has been registered under the Arms Act, and investigations are ongoing to trace other members of the interstate network.

Authorities said the operation underscores Delhi Police’s continued crackdown on illegal firearms supply and their efforts to dismantle organised arms trafficking chains operating across state borders.
