New Delhi: Dense fog and low visibility caused significant disruption at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Wednesday, leading to the cancellation of 148 flights and delays for more than 150 others.

According to airport officials, 78 arrivals and 70 departures were called off, while two flights had to be diverted to alternate airports due to poor visibility. IGIA, managed by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), handles around 1,300 flight movements daily, making the disruption a major inconvenience for passengers.

In a morning update on X, DIAL stated that visibility at the airport was gradually improving, but a few flights were still likely to be affected. Airport staff have been actively coordinating with airlines and other stakeholders to provide assistance to travelers across terminals.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation also posted a warning on X, noting that foggy conditions in parts of Northern India could continue to affect flight operations at select airports. The ministry emphasized that airlines must follow passenger service guidelines, including timely communication, rebooking or refunds when necessary, and handling of baggage during delays.

Passengers were advised to check with their respective airlines before heading to the airport and to expect possible rescheduling or adjustments due to the ongoing weather conditions.
