Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal, a major national memorial and inspirational complex dedicated to the life and ideals of former prime minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The inauguration marked Vajpayee’s 101st birth anniversary.
The prime minister was joined by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and several senior leaders during the ceremony. The sprawling complex houses towering 65-foot bronze statues of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, BJP ideologue Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, symbolising their contribution to India’s political and ideological landscape.
A key highlight of the memorial is a state-of-the-art museum built in a lotus-shaped structure and spread across nearly 98,000 square feet. The museum offers visitors a detailed insight into the life and nation-building contributions of Vajpayee, Mookerjee and Upadhyaya. After inaugurating the complex, PM Modi and other dignitaries toured the museum and viewed its exhibits.
According to an official statement, the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal has been developed over 65 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 230 crore. The project has been envisioned as a permanent national asset aimed at promoting leadership values, public service, cultural awareness and national inspiration.
Described as an inspirational complex of lasting national significance, the memorial is expected to serve as a source of motivation for present and future generations, reflecting the enduring impact of Vajpayee, Mookerjee and Upadhyaya on India’s public life and political thought.
