Ludhiana: A shocking case of violence has surfaced from Kapila Colony in Samrala, where a lawyer and his family were injured in a sword attack allegedly carried out by a neighbour. The incident occurred around 9:40 am, leaving three members of the family, the lawyer, his wife, and his mother, in need of urgent medical care.
According to initial reports, lawyer Kultar Singh was preparing to leave his home on a motorcycle when the accused, identified as Billu, confronted him. Without warning, the attacker allegedly struck Kultar Singh on the head with a sword. Hearing his cries for help, his wife Manpreet Kaur and mother Sharanjit Kaur rushed to intervene but were also targeted. In the assault, Kultar sustained a deep head wound requiring two stitches, Sharanjit suffered a severe injury near her ear that needed nine stitches, and Manpreet’s hand was fractured, along with multiple bruises across her body.
The victims were rushed to Samrala Civil Hospital, where doctors confirmed that all three are now in stable condition. Speaking to reporters, Kultar Singh claimed that the accused had been loitering outside their home and hurling abuses for several days. Residents alleged that Billu is a habitual troublemaker and suspected drug addict, known in the neighbourhood for previous altercations.
Station House Officer Pavitra Singh confirmed that the entire attack was recorded on CCTV. “A case has been registered under multiple charges, including attempt to murder. The accused is currently absconding, and teams have been deployed to trace him,” he said.
Police have assured residents that additional patrolling will be carried out in the area to prevent further incidents.
