New Delhi— Reflecting on her journey, India opener Shafali Verma said her maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup experience ended on a note she had never imagined, as she played a crucial role in India’s historic title triumph at home.

“My first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup didn’t go the way I expected, but it finished far better than I could have hoped for,” Verma said. She expressed gratitude for being able to contribute in the final and be part of history as India lifted the World Cup for the first time in front of a home crowd.

Calling the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for November a collective honour, Verma dedicated it to her teammates, coaches, family and supporters. “We win and lose as a team, and the same applies to this award,” she added.

The recognition marks a significant comeback for the young batter, who was earlier dropped from India’s ODI squad before returning to domestic cricket to rediscover form and earn a recall for the World Cup. Her performances through November not only showcased her resurgence but also underlined her ability to deliver on the biggest stage.

Verma’s composed and impactful displays throughout the tournament have firmly re-established her as a key figure in Indian women’s cricket, playing a central role in the team’s landmark World Cup victory.
